(another nifty cover)
What a cool ending! I wasn't really sure how Marquez was going to finish the novel which seemed to go on forever, but I'm pretty impressed. I guess I probably shouldn't spoil it in case someone wants to read it, but the ending just made me want to read the entire book over again. I like how everything connected back to the beginning and how every member of the family was basically a victim of fate. To be honest, I'm still pretty confused about who the main character is! Aureliano (the sixth generation) plays a crucial role toward the end of the novel by reading the old parchments of Melanquis. He is also very similar to Aureliano from the second generation. So maybe the characters that resemble each other from generation to generation symbolize an aspect of the novel. For example, the Aurelianos (Jose Arcadio Segundo included because he technically would be an Aureliano if he didn't confuse his name with his twin brother)signify the dedication and curiousity of the family which leads to their downfall. Just an idea.
