Although I haven't read much of One Hundred Years of Solitude over the past week or so, a lot has happened. To begin, only a few Buendías are still living! Aureliano (the illegitimate child of Meme with Mauricio Babilonia) is still stuck at home with his grandmother Fernanda. They are the only ones still occupying the Buendía household which is honestly very weird for me. Throughout the entire novel usually ten or more Buendías live in the house, but now there's only two. Actually only four Buendías are even alive. Ursula died and was estimated to be 115 years old. I really thought she was the main character but now I don't really know if there is a main character. Characters just come and go during the novel. Amaranta Ursula (daughter of Fernanda as well) is sent off to Europe before her father (Aureliano Segundo) dies. Jose Arcadio (also son of Fernanda and Aureliano Segundo) is still believed to be studying to become a pope. He actually returns after Fernanda dies and doesn't get along with Aureliano very well. I think Aureliano is so similar to Colonel Aureliano from generations ago. Aureliano usually copes himself up in Melquíades old room full of manuscripts and learns all about the past and future predictions. I only have about 50 pages left in this novel and I'm really curious to see how it all wraps up. Also, I'm excited to finish these books and start new ones!
